Kilpatrick Chooses Not To Testify

Have you heard the latest in the Kilpatrick corruption trial?

If you were Kwame Kilpatrick, would you take the stand?

Hello and happy Monday. I hope you and your family were nice and warm weekend. I have to admit that I was glad to hear that the groundhog saw his shadow and that spring is on its way. I love Michigan, but around this time of year, I need some warmth and sun.

On this windy Monday, we are discussing the Kwame Kilpatrick corruption trial. Here at The David J. Kramer Law Firm, PLLC, we have been bringing the latest in the Kilpatrick trial update. As a fellow Detroiter, this trial has caught my attention as well all many that live in the Detroit area.

The Latest Kilpatrick Trial News

The defense has chosen not to put Kwame on the stand to defend himself.

In addition, the two other defendants (Kwame’s lifelong friend Bobby Ferguson and Kwame’s father, Bernard Kilpatrick) have followed suit choosing not to testify.

The Detroit Free Press reported:

I am choosing not to testify,” Kilpatrick said to U.S. District Judge Nancy Edmunds, assuring her he had “thoroughly” discussed the matter with his attorney. All three men were well aware — and were advised by Edmunds — that had they chosen to speak, they could have been grilled in front of the jury about their pasts, including criminal convictions.

The three men are facing over 75 witnesses and evidence that includes:

  • Bank records
  • Text messages
  • Wiretap recordings

So what do you think of the defense’s latest move? Is it in Kilpatrick’s best interest not to testify? Or does he owe some kind of explanation to the city of Detroit?
