Are professional athletes role models for your children?
Do you believe because these professional athletes are role models that they should be held to a high standard?
The Miami Dolphins wide receiver, Chad “Ochocinco” Johnson, was released on bail yesterday after having been charged with domestic violence against his wife.
Saturday night, the couple, Chad Johnson and wife Evelyn Lozado, had been unloading groceries. When Lozado found a receipt for a box of condoms, a dispute broke out. Lozado told the police that the couple was parked in the driveway sitting in their Smart Car arguing when Mr. Johnson head butted Lozado.
Lozado ran to a neighbor’s house when the 6’ 4” 190lb wide receiver started shouting that he no longer cared about his career:
“I don’t give a [expletive]! I don’t give a [expletive] about my career!”
According to ABC News, Lozado went to the hospital with a wound about 3 inches on her forehead.
“I observed [redacted] to have a laceration on her forehead approximately 3” in length,” Officer Christopher Epps wrote in his arrest report.
KTLA.com reported that on Sunday night, the Miami Dophins announced on their website that Johnson has been released from his one-year contract. The website did not say why. Johnson had only played in one preseason game and had yet to participate in any regular season games. It is unknown how this incident will affect the couple’s reality TV show they had been filming with VH1 called “Ev and Ocho”, which is set to depute on September 4th.
The couple has been ordered to no contact by Judge Ian Richards.
What do you think?
Are professional athletes held to a different standard? Do you think the Dolphins should have dismissed him so quickly and without even the trial?
