CMU Student Faces 15 Years In Prison

Consequences

When you were in college, would you say that you understood the consequences of your decisions?

For many, college is a time to find yourself and experiment with who you are. On the path to self discovery, some students can find themselves making decisions without considering the consequence. While some consequences do not have lasting affects, others do.

Kayla Bonkowski is learning just how difficult it can be when you do not consider consequences before acting. This 19-year-old, Central Michigan University Student has been accused of spraying her roommates iced tea with bleach after an argument.

The roommates’ argument was over dirty dishes. After the roommate had ingested the iced tea she called 911 and completed a report that she submitted to the Prosectuor Risa Scully’s office. The roommate was treated at McLaren-Central Michigan.

The Oakland Press reports:

She also allegedly told police that she put bleach in the glass because her roommate is “mean” and “that she knew spraying the bleach was a serious thing,” according to the criminal complaint.

Bonkowski may have known that poisoning her roommate was “a serious thing” but she may have known that she would be facing up to 15 years in prison for a poison food charge. She may have not known that she did not have to speak to the police without an attorney present.

The police reported that Bonkowski admitted to attempting to poison her roommate over dirty dishes. She will be in court today.
